IGNOU BA Admission 2018
Ignou BA Admission is offered to the learners in both January and July academic cycles. The students can check out the last date of Ignou admission in the notification published on the university official website at www.ignou.ac.in.
Usually, the advertisement for admission is published in the month of May and November for July and January sessions respectively.
In India, the demand for the admission in BA through distance education mode is huge. So, the university provides the best opportunity to the students to do their graduation via Open and distance learning. It is a three-year degree course.
The university follows the 3-tier system approach for teaching it to the students. It means the exams for the students who take IGNOU BA admission in January session will be conducted in December month.The students admitted in July session can appear in the examination in the next year June session i.e. after completing one year of study.

IGNOU BA Fee Structure
The total fees for BA programme is Rs.7200/- which has to be paid year wise @Rs.2400/- per year. Please confirm the latest fee of any course in the latest prospectus or from the Regional Centre as it may change during the course of time.
IGNOU BA Admission Eligibility Criteria
The admission for the Bachelor degree programme is provided through 2 different streams: Formal and Non -Formal. The candidates who have not passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination falls under the Non- Formal stream. The students who fall under this stream wants to take admission in BDP programme, they need to study the IGNOU Bachelor Preparatory Programme (BPP) and pass it to qualify for the admission.
The candidates who passed out 10+2 or its equivalent examination falls under the Formal stream. They can take direct admission in this programme. In short, to take admission in Bachelor of Arts (BA), the candidate should be having 10+2 or its equivalent certificate or BPP from IGNOU.
IGNOU BA Admission Procedure
The university provides the admission to BA course in both January and July session.The admission related advertisement is published in the local dailies and on the official website of the university as already mentioned above. To apply for IGNOU BA admission, the learners need to visit the nearest IGNOU Regional Centre and obtain the prospectus. The application forms related to admission, re-registration, examination, etc have been enclosed in the prospectus.The learner can also download the Ignou prospectus for BA from the university official website.
IGNOU BA Online Admission
The learners can also fill up Ignou online admission form to apply for admission to BA (Bachelor of Arts) course. All, they need is the working internet connectivity at their home or in their nearby. To apply for IGNOU BA Online Admission, the students should visit the university official website at following web URL: https://onlineadmission.ignou.ac.in/admission/.
The students have to upload their academic documents, scanned photograph and signature to register them for any course online. The IGNOU BA fees can be paid online as well if the application form is filled online via credit/ debit card.
How to choose subjects for BA in Ignou?
It is very much important task to choose courses/ subjects of Ignou BA programme correctly in each year.
First Year (Choose 32 credits)
- Students have to take 16 credits from the pool of Foundation Courses (BSHF101, FEG1 or FHD2 and FEG2 or any one of Modern Indian Language (MIL)). For more details check out our Ignou BA foundation courses section.
- The remaining 16 credits have to be chosen from Elective Courses.
Second year (Choose 32 credits)
- Choose 8 credits from remaining Foundation Courses.i.e the student should choose FST-1.
- Choose 24 credits from remaining Elective Courses.
Third year (Choose 32 credits)
- In the third year, the student should choose 16 or 24 credits in Elective courses
- Choose 16 or 8 credits from Application-Oriented Courses.
IGNOU BA Syllabus & Courses
For Ignou Bachelor Degree programmes, the university follows the credit system approach. One credit is equal to 30 hours of study.To obtain Bachelor’s Degree in BA from Ignou, the student has to complete 96 credits in a minimum of three years and maximum of 6 years. In each of three years students have to complete 32 credits. For earning 96 credits, a student has to choose the courses from the three categories of it.These course categories are mentioned as under:

IGNOU BA Foundation Courses
As we have already mentioned above, the students have to choose 24 credits from foundation courses. In first year of study they have to choose 16 credits and remaining 8 credits has to be chosen in 2nd year.

IGNOU BA Application Oriented Courses
Students must choose at least 8 credits from pool of application-oriented courses. However, the learners are allowed to choose a maximum of 16 credits from this category.
To understand the above statement, let’s take an example…
If any student choose 64 credits from elective courses then he can select only 8 credits from Application Oriented Courses.
However, if the student chooses only 56 credits from elective courses then he/she is allowed to select 16 credits from pool of Application Oriented Courses.

Eligibility to get BA (Major) degree
It is mandatory for learners to successfully complete 48 credits in any one discipline mentioned above to obtain B.A. Major degree after completion of total 96 credits. However, to complete a B.A.(Major) degree in Mathematics, the students should complete 40 credits including MTE1, MTE2,MTE4 and MTE9 (in all worth 28 credits)
The students who will not complete 48 credits from their chosen discipline from elective courses will be awarded B.A General Degree.
