Ignou MA Anthropology (MAAN) is a two-year master degree programme offered by Indira Gandhi National Open University. The university offers this master degree in the field of Anthropology. The two-tier approach has been applied to the university to study this programme.

The admission is offered by the university in both January and July sessions. Students who take admission in January session can appear for the first-year examination in the month of December whereas the students registered in July session can appear for term end examination in the month of June.

The medium of Instruction: At present, it is available in English medium only. However, in future, the university may offer it in the Hindi language as well.

About Programme  & objective: The term Anthropology is related to the scientific study of humans beings, about their past and present and draws a conclusion from the social sciences and life sciences, as well as the humanities.

Ignou MA Anthropology course is an integrated approach to the subject which incorporates the study of humans in time and space. It is done on the basis of an in-depth understanding involving holistic approach of Anthropology using theoretical and practical techniques.

It has been introduced in a curriculum with an aim to develop professionals who will be trained under the professional anthropologists in academic and research institutes, NGO’s, government organizations, health sectors and applied sciences.

The another objective of the programme is to provide an opportunity for learners to pursue the master degree in the field of Anthropologist and also they can get jobs and take their career to new heights.

The admission eligibility details are mentioned below:

  • Admission Eligibility: The candidate seeking admission to MAAN should be having a graduation or higher degree from recognized university.
  • Course Duration: This course is of two years duration.Students have the minimum duration of 2 years to pass or clear all the courses of this programme and maximum duration is 5 years.
  • Fee: The total fees is Rs. 14,000/- which has to be paid year wise @Rs. 7,000/- per year. (Note: Please confirm the latest fees from regional centre as it may change during the course of time).
  • Age Eligibility: There is no minimum and maximum age bar for this course.

Ignou MA Anthropology Admission Procedure:

Students seeking admission in MA (Anthropology) programme can apply for admission in both January and July sessions. The advertisement for the admission is publicized by the university in the daily newspapers. The notification is also uploaded on the official website of the university at www.ignou.ac.in as well.

The admission notice is usually published in the months of April-May and October-November for July and January sessions respectively. The learners have to visit their nearest Ignou Regional Centre to obtain prospectus and application form. The counselors in the regional centre will guide the learners about the complete admission process.

The admission forms, other related forms, get enrollment card, etc are provided in the prospectus itself. The university provides the link on its official website to download the common prospectus for all programmes. The university offers the ‘Round the Year Admission’ through its ‘walk-in Admission’ scheme.

IGNOU MAAN Online Admission:

The university also provides an option for the students to fill up the MAAN admission form online on the official university website. The learners who are busy in their jobs and do not have time to visit the regional centre can easily avail this facility at following URL: https://onlineadmission.ignou.ac.in/admission/

Once the student gets admission in this programme, then he/she can check their Ignou admission status on the university official website. In case, if the student finds any discrepancy in the admission details, then he/she can immediately contact their concerned regional centre.
