Ignou Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) is a three-year bachelor degree programme offered by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) via distance learning mode of education. It has been introduced with an objective to provide education to students in the field of Social Work.

BSW is is a three year degree programme. The university has adopted the 3-tier system approach for it. In order to complete the Bachelor degree in Social Work, the students need to complete a total of 96 credits.The university offers this programme in both English and Hindi medium at all regional centres.

Programme Objective: Ignou Bachelor of Social Work is a very innovative bachelor degree discipline in the field of Social Work. It has been designed and developed by School of Social Work (SOSW).

It also helps in preparing students for productive careers in the field of teaching and research in the core and emerging areas of the discipline.

The BSW programme offers a good opportunity for learners to go for higher studies in professional social work. It is very important and useful programme for the people who are employed at middle and lower levels with NGOs.

The fresh candidates also have very good opportunity to work in social and social welfare sectors.

Eligibility and Other requirements:

  • Admission Eligibility: The candidate seeking admission in Bachelor of Social Work programme of Indira Gandhi National Open University should have completed 10+2 or its equivalent or BPP from IGNOU
  • Course Duration: The student should pass or clear all the courses of this programme within the minimum duration of 3 years and maximum duration of 6 years.
  • Programme Fee: Candidate seeking admission to it are required to submit the fee of Rs.12,000/- for the full programme which is to be paid year wise @Rs. 4,000/- per year. (Note: Please confirm the latest fees as it may change during the course of time.)
  • Age Limit: There is no minimum and maximum age bar for this course.

IGNOU BSW Admission Procedure:

 It is one of the most demanding programme at graduate degree level in the field of Social Work in which students want to take admission. The persons with professional training/degree in Social Work generally work in socially relevant areas such as health care, community development, education, industry, counselling, family, correction, social defense, women, children, disability etc.

The admission to this discipline has been offered by the university in both January and July sessions.The BSW term end examinations are conducted by university twice in a year i.e June and December.

The examinations for the students who take admission in January has been conducted in the month of June whereas the term end exams (TEE) for students who take admission in  July session take place in December month.

The Ignou BSW admission related advertisement is published by the university in the local dailies and also on the official website of the university at www.ignou.ac.in in the months of April-May and September-October.

To get admission to this programme, the candidates need to visit their nearest IGNOU Regional Centre and buy prospectus from there.The enrollment Identity card, admission form and other required forms are provided in the prospectus itself.

The Ignou Prospectus can also be downloaded from the official website which is available in the form of common prospectus. The university also offers the ‘Round the Year Admission’ through its ‘walk-in Admission’ scheme for both January and July cycle.The Ignou BSW admission form can also be filled online from the university official website.

Admission Status: Once you get admission in BSW programme, you can check your registration status on the university official website.In case you find any discrepancy, you can immediately contact your concerned regional centre to make any correction. Assignments: Students also need to submit the solved assignments for each BSW course before submitting the term end exam form and the last date of submission.These assignments will be assessed by a counsellor at the concerned study centre.

These assignment marks constitute the 30% of total marks in final exam results.So, the students have to take this assignment task very seriously.It is very important to attain good assignment marks by writing good answers which will help in achieving a good percentage.

Previous Year Question Papers: The university conducts the Bachelor of Social Work examination twice in a year. The exams are conducted in the month of December for January Session and in the month of June for July Session.
