Ignou MA Philosophy Admission 2017 – The Master of Arts in Philosophy (MAPY) is a two-year master degree programme.To study this, the 2-tier system approach has been applied by the University.The admission has been provided in both sessions  i.e. January-June and July-December.

The exams for January session students are held in the month of December whereas the term end exams (TEE) for July session take place in June month.

It has the following major components:

  • Compulsory Courses-16 credits
  • Elective Courses-48 credits
  • Students can choose 6 electives in the first year and 6 electives in the 2nd year
  • The total number of credits required to complete the discipline are 64.

Objective: This programme has been offered by School of Interdisciplinary & Trans-disciplinary Studies (SOITS) in the University.

It has been designed with the main objective to provide an opportunity for learners to pursue higher studies in the field of Philosophy and also to train the student mind for better logical thinking, mental discipline, ability for analysis and synthesis, critical reflection on social and political realities.

The admission details about Ignou MA Philosophy has been mentioned below:

  • Medium of Instruction: English
  • Eligibility  The candidate seeking admission in Master of Arts in Philosophy must possess Bachelor’s degree or higher degree from any of the recognized university.
  • Duration: The student should pass or clear all the courses within the minimum duration of 2 years and maximum duration of 5 years.
  • Fee: The total fees is Rs. 9,000/- which students need to pay Rs.4,500/- per year. (Note: Please confirm the latest fees for the programme as it may change during the course of time.)
  • Age: There is no minimum and maximum age bar for this course.

Admission Procedure: The Ignou MA Philosophy (MAPY) is one of the most demanding master degree programmes in the field of philosophy in which students want to take admission. The admission is provided by the university in both January and July session.

The admission related advertisement is published by the University in the local dailies. Also, it is published on the official website of the university at www.ignou.ac.in in the months of April-May and Oct- Nov.

To apply for admission, students need to visit their nearest Ignou Regional Centre and obtain the prospectus.The admission forms and other required forms, enrollment card are provided in it.

Students can also download MAPY student handbook from the official website in the form of a common prospectus.

The admission form can also be filled online from the official university website.The university offers walk-in admission under ‘Round the Year’ scheme.

Ignou MAPY Admission Status:

Once the students applied for admission to MA Philosophy, they can check the registration status on the university official website. In case they find any discrepancy, they can immediately contact the concerned regional centre.

Courses & Syllabus: The programme consists of eight courses (64 Credits). Five Courses are compulsory and three courses are optional.

The courses from MAPY-01 to MAPY-04 are offered in the first year whereas MAPY-05 and optional courses are offered in the second year.These are named with course code and course name as follows:
